Gandharva Mahavidyalaya North America

Gandharva Mahavidyalaya North America (GMV N.A) is the first Gandharva Mahavidyalaya established outside India to spread Indian Classical Music. As part of the organization, our mission is to raise awareness, educate and promote Indian Classical Music by offering training, examination, and creating a platform and forum for music performance in the United States. GMV NA is the official extension of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya, Pune.

Pandit Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, the great reviver of Hindustani classical music, established the first Gandharva Mahavidyalaya on 5th May 1901 at Lahore. Pt. Vinayakrao Patwardhan, one of the senior most disciples of Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar, wanted to spread the sacred Indian traditional classical music to the common people. This strong determination led to the establishment of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Pune on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, on 8th of May 1932.

Since then the institution has been successful in bringing out and enhancing more talent. The institution provides classical music classes in Hindustani and Carnatic music for vocal and instrumental apart from organizing conferences, seminars, concerts and other musical activities. There are very few institutions which offer dedicated classical music classes in a systematic approach. Gandharva Mahavidyalaya also conducts examinations and certifications which are recognized by the government and are executed by Bharatiya Sangeet Prasarak Mandal.
