President and Head of Music Education and Examination

Praneet Marathe, hailing from a lineage deeply entrenched in musical tradition, is a distinguished harmonium player and educator. Under the tutelage of his father, Pt. Pramod Marathe, a renowned exponent of the harmonium and his mother Smt. Parineeta Marathe, Praneet has steadfastly dedicated himself to the propagation of Indian Classical music in India and globally, propelled by his profound musical heritage.

Praneet’s musical odyssey commenced at the tender age of 6, sparked by his exposure to the mellifluous strains of Indian classical music resonating from his father’s performances. His debut concert at the age of 12 marked the onset of his career. He has accompanied eminent musical luminaries such as Dr. Arun Dravid, Pt. Shounak Abhisheki, Ritesh and Rajnish Mishra, Pt. Shriniwas Joshi, Smt. Indrani Mukherjee, and others. His repertoire graces prestigious platforms worldwide, including the Pune Festival, Yuva Sangeet Samaroh Pune, All India Radio concerts, and Ragamala, the foremost overnight showcase of live Indian classical music in the United States.

In recognition of his talent, Praneet was honored with a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, in the field of Harmonium in 2012. Driven by a fervent desire to contribute to the musical fraternity, he resolved to extend the legacy of Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Pune beyond borders, founding the inaugural Gandharva Mahavidyalaya branch outside India in North America in 2023.

This initiative reflects Praneet’s aim to create an organization focused on promoting high standards in both musical performance and teaching, specifically designed to cater to the needs of the community in North America, all while preserving the essence of Indian classical music.

Furthermore, Praneet’s contributions extend beyond performance and teaching :

  • He has pioneered the development of “Swarlipi,” a novel digital-friendly music notation system
  • Praneet is currently spearheading the creation of structured online music learning modules, thereby expanding access to quality music education to enthusiasts worldwide.
  • He has played an instrumental role in shaping music curriculum and instructional material at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Pune.
  • Praneet serves as a distinguished faculty member and examiner at Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Pune, contributing his expertise to the assessment and instruction of aspiring harmonium enthusiasts.
